About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repairs to structural components of buildings. This role involves conducting inspections of structural components, responding to repair requests, performing repairs to interior and exterior surfaces, assisting with renovations, installing drywall, painting, and maintaining door and window hardware. The position also requires operating and maintaining trade equipment, managing supplies, and ensuring the safety and readiness of work areas and tools. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with campus-wide snow removal and participating in required training.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform repairs to structural components of buildings including dry walling and painting.
  • Ability to use power tools.
  • Must be able to successfully complete driver’s clearance process.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required.
  • Must be able to rotate through on-call duties, covering evenings and weekends per the on-call procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to support the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education, as well as University goals for institutional diversity.
  • Work involves the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined space, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items.
  • The work environment involves exposure to various elements such as chemicals, dust, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations, or dampness, where work exposes the employee to potentially non-disabling injuries.
  • Duties require that work be performed in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work may require exposure to dangerous equipment and machinery.
  • Work usually requires use of protective clothing or gear such as earplugs, hard hats, mask, gloves, insulated clothing, boots, coats, etc.
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of structural components of buildings, including but not limited to roofs, doors, walls, windows, ceilings and floors.
  • Conduct seasonal inspection of resident rooms in order to identify and correct deficiencies.
  • Respond to repair requests, troubleshoot problems and make necessary repairs.
  • Perform repairs to interior and exterior walls, ceilings, floors and other building surfaces.
  • Assist with renovations and remodeling work as needed using hand and power tools.
  • Install drywall; paint preparation, and paint as required.
  • Fit, install, and maintain door and window hardware.
  • Operate, maintain and ensure adequate supplies, tools, power tools, materials and equipment of the trade or area where assigned.
  • Prepare requisitions and obtain materials needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Ensure cost effective use of materials allocated.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained in assigned areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections and perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Ensure operational readiness and safety of work areas, tools, power tools and equipment.
  • Clean work area upon completion of assignment.
  • Assist with snow plowing and snow/ice removal campus-wide as required and directed.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
  • Attendance of and participation in required training for role.
