The Mainline Technician works as part of the mainline team, performing coaxial cable builds, routine preventive maintenance, and outage response. The role maintains CATV trunk and distribution cable and active components between the headend and customer devices, troubleshoots escalated faults that cause out-of-specification tap MER readings, and maintains CATV power systems. The technician may splice plant builds and extensions, sweep and balance CATV systems, identify and repair egress leaks, and respond to cable and active-equipment troubles after hours according to company policy. Work must comply with applicable codes. The technician documents FCC Proof-of-Performance, electrical readings at key network locations, sweep and balancing results, equipment lists, and maintenance records. They take optical readings at fiber nodes, report physical plant changes to the mapping department, notify appropriate personnel about maintenance that may degrade customer service, identify chronic plant issues, and participate in an on-call rotation. The role operates company vehicles, potentially designated commercial vehicles, and works at heights using poles, ladders, and platforms. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license and safe driving record, and eligibility and willingness to obtain required commercial vehicle medical certification or licenses. Three to five years of telecommunications installation or repair experience is preferred. The technician must be familiar with bucket truck operation, pass pre-employment background, driver history, medical, and drug checks, and be capable of working in varied temperatures, climates, and weather conditions. The role may require work outside normal business hours.
