About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions is recruiting for a Mail Services Courier for the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Pick up mail and packages from US Postal Office and package center; average mail count per day is 900 pieces. Bins weigh up to 50 pounds each. Date stamp all incoming mail with date received, and sort mail by inmate vs staff to distribute, x-ray, inspect, or scan. Receive outgoing mail from staff and inmates, determine most cost-effective method for shipping option, and affix appropriate postage. Maintain logs for all incoming and outgoing mail, postage meter, and input inmate postage charges onto the inmate accounts.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the training plan developed for the Mail Services Trainee OR One year of work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform responsibly and independently.
  • Possess a valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Certify that they have a legal right to accept employment in the United States.
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Must be fingerprinted.
