About The Position

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position for a Permanent WG-3414-12 MACHINIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1493000, and is part of the MO 139th Airlift Wing. This position is also advertised on AGR Announcement #AF26-082. The role involves performing all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools, and assemblies. It includes fabricating local manufactured items for aircraft components, laying out work, interpreting blueprints and technical publications, designing sketches, and making special tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. The machinist will perform production work on aircraft parts, weld various metals and alloys, and compare machine parts to specifications for conformance. Additionally, the position requires conducting training for drill status guard members, participating in readiness evaluations and inspections, and potentially being aircraft welder certified. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.
  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be required for the position.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
  • Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Air National Guard.
  • Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion).

  • Minimum Military Grade - TSgt (E-6) immediately promotable to MSgt (E-7)
  • Must possess experience or training that has provided you with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this position; and experience or training which demonstrates your ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this position.
  • Experience, education or training which demonstrates your ability to operate machine tools and their attachments and to use measuring instruments and equipment; knowledge of the machinability of metals and other materials; and able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, work sheets or other specifications.
  • Must have specialized experience which demonstrates a broad comprehensive knowledge of various machining operations, accepted machine trade methods and techniques, and skill in using any of the conventional and/or computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools.
  • The specialized experience must demonstrate the ability perform all types of machining operations, independently plan the sequence of operation, lay out work, read and interpret blueprints, and determine required adaptation of conventional and specialized machine tools.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools and assemblies.
  • Fabricates local manufactured items required for aircraft components.
  • Lays out work, reads and interprets blueprints and technical publications, designs and draws working sketches, makes special tools, dies, jigs and fixtures, performs production work of aircraft parts.
  • Welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys such as cobalt, chrome, nickel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium.
  • Compares machine parts with drawings, technical orders, or specifications for conformance with established tolerances, fits and surface finish.
  • Conducts training of drill status guard (DSG) members assigned to the shop.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations and inspections, mobility and command support exercises.
  • May be required to be aircraft welder certified.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
