About The Position

The Machinist works as part of the machine shop team, running CNC machinery and ensuring equipment and machines operate properly. The role includes programming and operating conversational CNC lathes and mills with Proto Trak controls, setting up and operating a variety of machines, and maintaining equipment through adjustments, repairs, and maintenance. The machinist also measures work with precision tools and fabricates replacement and new parts for facility machinery.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of machinist experience.
• Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist trade.
• Ability to learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation, mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
• Ability to read blueprints and maintain precision tolerances when building tooling and machine parts.
• Knowledge of general tool-room equipment, including lathes, surface grinders, mills, hones, saws, plunge-style EDMs, heat-treat ovens, hydraulic presses, drill presses, pedestal grinders, and belt sanders.
• Ability to stay organized and solve problems.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Responsibilities

• Program and run conversational CNC lathes and mills with Proto Trak controls.
• Ensure smooth and continuous operation of equipment and machines, including setup, repair, adjustment, and maintenance.
• Set up and operate a variety of machines, and mount holding fixtures and cutters.
• Measure work using precision tools such as micrometers and indicators.
• Fabricate replacement and new parts for facility machinery.
