Machinist-3rd Shift

Arch Precision•Earth City, MO

About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Machinist to join the production team. The Machinist handles end-to-end setup of complex jobs on multi-axis CNC and rotary transfer machines, bridging technical drawings and finished precision parts. The role ensures the first piece meets quality standards before the process is handed over to operators. The position is on 3rd shift, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with no weekends. The work takes place in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oil, and metal shavings, and requires strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • At least 3–5 years of CNC setup experience.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and M-code, including the ability to edit programs at the controller.
  • Expert-level skill with precision measuring instruments such as bore gages, height gages, and optical comparators.
  • Strong shop math skills, including trigonometry and geometry, for calculating speeds, feeds, and coordinates.
  • Ability to read complex industrial drawings and understand tight tolerances.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oil, and metal shavings.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm when a tool path is not behaving as expected.
  • A precision-focused mindset and ability to communicate technical issues clearly to engineers and entry-level operators.

Nice To Haves

  • Fanuc experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and setup sheets to prepare machines for production, including installing tools, loading programs, and setting work offsets.
  • Run initial parts and conduct comprehensive first-article inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and CMM equipment.
  • Review G-code and M-code for potential errors and perform dry runs and single-block execution to verify safe, efficient tool paths.
  • Select, assemble, and preset cutting tools and holders; monitor tool wear and make offsets or replacements to maintain tolerances.
  • Collaborate with Programming and Engineering teams to improve cycle times, tool life, and fixture stability.
  • Guide machine operators on part loading, basic offset adjustments, and quality checks after setup is finalized.
  • Follow PPE requirements and safety protocols.
