About The Position

A Machine Operator sets up and operates metal fabricating machines, such as brakes, lathes, cutters, borers, millers, grinders, presses, drills, rolls, shears, saws, and presses, to cut, bend, straighten, and form metal plates, sheets, and structural shapes according to blueprints and specifications. This role requires the ability to run and set up all machine tools within the machine shop, perform own set-ups, load correct programs, and set tool offsets. Familiarity with G-codes is necessary, along with daily and monthly machine maintenance. Programming and set-up experience in a fast-paced environment is desired, with experience in numerous controls like Fanuc, Okuma, and Hurco being a plus. Other duties may be assigned by the area supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be able to perform own set-ups—Loading of correct program(s); Able to set tool offsets.
  • Must be familiar with G-codes.
  • Daily and monthly maintenance of machines.
  • Programming and set up experience in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly make precise adjustments in moving controls of a machine.
  • Ability to read and understand information
  • Ability to correctly follow rules in order to arrange things in a certain order
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Adhere to all company policies
  • All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in operating various machines preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent Career Certificate or Associate Degree preferred.
  • Experience in numerous controls required, Fanuc, Okuma, Hurco.is a plus
  • Forklift Certified
  • Overhead Crane Certified

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation.
  • Computes data, such as gear dimensions and machine settings, applying knowledge of shop mathematics.
  • Inspects or measures work, using ruler, tape measure, gauges, and templates.
  • Inspects first-run work pieces and verifies conformance to specifications to check accuracy of machine setup.
  • Selects, positions, and secures dies, blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machine, using rule, square, shims, templates, hand tools and built-in gauges.
  • Positions and clamps stops, guides, and turntables.
  • Adjusts controls to set and regulate machining factors, such as pressure and depth of ram stroke, adjustment rolls, blade angle and machine speed.
  • Locates and marks bending or cutting lines and reference points on work piece, using instruments, such as rule and compass or by tracing from templates.
  • Positions work piece against stops and guides or aligns layout marks with dies or cutting blades manually or using overhead crane.
  • Starts machine and observes machine operation to reposition work piece, change dies, or adjust machine settings for multiple or successive passes.
  • Records operational data such as pressure readings, length of stroke, feeds and speeds.
  • Instructs operators or other workers in machine setup and operation.
  • Recognize and identify different materials.
  • Ability to run and set up all machine tools within the machine shop.
