About The Position

The Machine Operator position involves performing minor machine maintenance, checking dies, adhering to safety policies, and accurately completing documentation. Responsibilities include accepting and evaluating materials, reading job specifications to understand processes and material requirements, setting machine adjustments, and filling out sequences at each completed operation. The operator will position work pieces, activate machines, inspect the first run work piece for dimensional tolerances, and select appropriate machine speeds and feeds. They will also monitor machine operation for defects or malfunctions, perform first and last piece comparisons, and pack/stack/mark parts as required. Housekeeping duties around the work center are also essential to maintain a safe environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
  • Check dies for needed maintenance.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Accurately complete all documentation as required to complete each job.
  • Performs housekeeping duties around work center to avoid slips, trips, and falls.
  • Accept materials for each assigned job, review and evaluate prior to beginning.
  • Reads job specifications (job traveler) to determine machine adjustments, material requirements and to fully understand process prior to beginning each operation.
  • Fills out sequence at every operation completed.
  • Sets stop or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
  • Activate machine and obtain first run work piece, inspect part and verify dimensional tolerances before continuing to run.
  • Selects and sets speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish.
  • Follow-up with team lead to verify any questions if necessary.
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Completes first piece and last piece comparisons throughout the run.
  • Perform operation to acceptable quality standards, pack/stack/mark parts if required and transports finished work pieces.
