About The Position

This is a 2nd shift position for a Machine Operator at Ferrara, with core hours from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The role involves tending packaging equipment, specifically confectionery printing equipment. The position requires the ability to work overtime, potentially including varying start and end times, and weekends, depending on business needs. The operator will be responsible for maintaining high print quality, managing ink fountains, performing independent adjustments to equipment, inspecting production for compliance with specifications, completing required paperwork, and performing cursory preventative maintenance. Other duties within the packaging department may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work overtime, potentially including varying start times, end times, and weekends dependent on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Tends packaging equipment including confectionery printing equipment.
  • Performs continuous tending of confectionery printing equipment, making independent adjustments to maintain high print quality.
  • Fills and cleans ink fountains, ensuring proper ink consistency through thinning with proper solvents.
  • Performs independent adjustments and corrections to assigned equipment to ensure efficient operation.
  • Inspects all production to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Takes direction from the Packaging Machine Operator.
  • Completes all required paperwork, including volumes consumed, lot codes, checklists, weight log sheets, and warehouse transfers.
  • Performs cursory preventative maintenance duties on assigned equipment, potentially using written manuals.
  • May be assigned to calculate, compile, and report production volumes as directed by the Packaging Supervisor.
  • Performs all duties assigned within the packaging department, including packing cases or caddies, palletizing cases, gathering and feeding product, inspecting product, and assembling cartons or cases.
