About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking skilled Machine Operators for their 2nd shift. The role involves producing quality mechanical power transmission components, material handling systems, and custom forgings. The operator will follow production instructions, install machine fixtures, operate machinery such as lathes, mills, drills, presses, and CNC machines, and monitor the production process to ensure quality standards are met. This includes performing inspections and measurements using various tools. Adherence to cleanliness and safety protocols, including the use of PPE and maneuvering heavy parts, is crucial. The position also involves assisting in other areas as needed.

Requirements

Average math skills.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
Ability to complete simple logs and reports in English.
Physically able to handle heavy items, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
Ability to work scheduled hours and comply with company policies.
Ability to consistently stand for an entire shift.
Ability to learn fundamental machining concepts.
Demonstrated proficiency in using measuring devices.
Attention to detail.
Dependability and consistent performance.
Flexibility to respond effectively to shifting production demands.

Responsibilities

Follow production instructions and tasks from process sheets, blueprints, or verbal directions.
Align and secure dies, punches, blades, or other fixtures to ensure safe machine operation.
Set up and operate machines such as lathes, mills, drills, presses, and CNC machines according to specifications.
Monitor the production process, perform inspections and measurements of finished products using tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify they meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines, wear personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to safety regulations. Use a crane or buddy system to maneuver large, awkward, or heavy parts. Ensure the work area is clean and organized.
Assist in other areas or departments as needed.
