About The Position

Swenson Granite is hiring a Machine Operator for its Stone Thermal Line at the production plant in Barre, Vermont. The operator handles sawn stone slabs, loads them onto the thermal line with an overhead crane, and feeds them into a thermal machine that creates a textured finish for landscape products. The role uses automated and manually operated machinery and includes measuring products, checking for imperfections, cleaning, and performing autonomous maintenance on the machine. Training is provided, and prior experience or training is not required. This is a permanent, full-time, first-shift position scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The hourly rate is $25 to $31.60 and up, depending on industry experience. The job regularly involves standing, frequently involves walking, and may require lifting or moving up to 60 pounds. A crane or assistance from another employee is available for loads or tasks that could compromise an employee’s recovery.

Requirements

No prior experience or training is required; training is provided.
Ability to regularly stand and frequently walk.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Ability to occasionally reach with hands and arms and push and pull on conveyors within the parameters of the employee’s work-release status.

Responsibilities

Use automated and manually operated machinery to produce stone landscaping products.
Load and feed slabs into the thermal machine.
Measure products with a tape measure to ensure dimensions are correct.
Identify imperfections related to the production process.
Use an overhead crane to move slabs.
Keep stone slabs and the work area clean using a low-pressure water hose.
Clean and perform autonomous maintenance on the thermal machine.
Follow safety procedures and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
