About The Position

ITW Specialty Films, a division of Illinois Tool Works Inc., designs, manufactures, and markets specialized holographic films for consumer packaging, trading cards, and lottery markets under the ShineMark brand. The Machine Operator operates and sets up equipment to emboss holographic images and slit rolls of film, ensuring safe and efficient production. The role involves monitoring machine and product performance, making adjustments, conducting quality checks, recording production information, and handling materials and equipment. Operators may cross-train on equipment in other teams and assist other operators as needed. The position is on the third shift, Monday through Friday, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., with required overtime that may include one or two Saturdays at least one to two times per month. Compensation is $22.00–$23.00 based on job history, experience, and suitability, plus a $1.25 third-shift differential.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good judgment.
Basic computer skills.
Willingness to learn and flexibility to work in other departments within ITW ShineMark, NA, as assigned.
Ability to adapt to a challenging and demanding work environment.
Willingness to work overtime, including one or two Saturdays at least one to two times per month.
Ability to complete a respiratory clearance exam and use a respirator as needed for certain aspects of the position.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 65 pounds as needed.
Agreement to comply with the campus's 100% non-smoking policy.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a manufacturing environment and/or mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

Read production schedules to determine the timing of machine changeovers and runs.
Ensure sufficient inventory is available for production.
Start and stop machines using machine control panels.
Align or fasten machine parts, such as rollers and blades, using hand tools.
Thread or feed film through rollers and adjust machine temperature, speed, and product or machine flow rate.
Observe machines and products during operation to detect defects or deviations from specifications and make adjustments as needed.
Record production run quantities according to SOPs and job orders, and perform quality-control checks on products and materials.
Consult with the Team Lead and/or technical staff about questionable items.
Perform machine changeovers, adjust slit width, and load and unload materials from machinery's unwind and rewind parts.
Monitor embossing processes, inspect materials for visual defects, and adjust machines when necessary.
Clean machines and parts between runs, one to several times per shift.
Load, unload, pack, and transport products and machine parts using carts, pallet jacks, or forklifts/fork trucks.
Operate and drive a forklift/fork truck.
Set up and operate machines that apply embossed holographic images and slit film rolls safely and efficiently.
Use computer equipment to print production run sheets and labels and perform quality-assurance testing.
Follow hazardous-material handling requirements when working with solvents.
Learn product codes, the color-numbering system, and formulas.
Cross-train and operate equipment in other teams and assist other operators as needed.
