About The Position

Stripe is offering Master's machine learning engineering internships for summer 2027 within its Applied ML, Data Science, Risk, and Payments organizations. Interns contribute to critical projects that enhance Stripe products, including work involving foundation models for tasks such as fraud detection, enhanced support, and predicting user behavior. Projects may include the Stripe Assistant and Stripe Foundation Model, applying machine learning to how businesses interact with financial services and data.

The role involves developing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems and participating in the full lifecycle of machine learning models, from design and training through improvement and launch. Interns write production-scale ML models intended to support access to economic infrastructure for businesses globally, collaborate across teams, incorporate feedback, learn new technologies, and communicate work status effectively. Applicants must intend to return to their degree program after the internship or co-op.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field, with expected graduation in winter 2027 or spring/summer 2028.
• Practical programming and machine learning experience demonstrated through projects, classwork, or research.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Scala, and Spark, and libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
• Expertise in machine learning areas such as supervised and unsupervised learning techniques and ML operations; Large Language Models or Reinforcement Learning experience may also be relevant.
• Ability to work on collaborative projects and receive and apply feedback from stakeholders.
• Proactive approach to learning unfamiliar systems and ability to understand complex systems independently.
• Intent to return to the degree program after completing the internship or co-op.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of university education or equivalent experience, with in-depth knowledge in specific machine learning domains.
• Peer-reviewed articles published and presented at top-tier venues.
• Experience writing high-quality pull requests, maintaining good test coverage, and completing projects with minimal defects.
• Familiarity navigating new codebases and managing work across different programming languages.
• Excellent written communication skills for explaining work to teammates and broader Stripe audiences.
