About The Position

Stripe is offering Master's machine learning engineering internships for summer 2027 within its Applied ML, Data Science, Risk, and Payments organizations. Interns will contribute to critical projects that enhance Stripe products, including work involving foundation models for applications such as fraud detection, customer support, and predicting user behavior. Potential projects include Stripe Assistant and the Stripe Foundation Model.

The internship focuses on developing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems and taking models through design, training, improvement, and launch. Interns will write production-scale ML models that support access to economic infrastructure for businesses globally, collaborate across teams, incorporate feedback, and communicate their work effectively. Applicants must intend to return to their degree program after the internship.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field, with expected graduation in winter 2027 or spring/summer 2028.
• Practical experience with programming and machine learning through projects, coursework, or research.
• Familiarity with languages such as Python, Scala, and Spark, and libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
• Expertise in machine learning areas such as supervised and unsupervised learning techniques and ML operations; experience with large language models or reinforcement learning may also be relevant.
• Ability to work on collaborative projects and receive and apply feedback from stakeholders.
• Proactive approach to learning unfamiliar systems and ability to understand complex systems independently.
• Intent to return to the degree program after completing the internship or co-op.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of university education or equivalent experience, with in-depth knowledge in specific machine learning domains.
• Published and presented peer-reviewed articles in top-tier venues.
• Experience writing high-quality pull requests, maintaining good test coverage, and completing projects with minimal defects.
• Familiarity with navigating new codebases and managing work across different programming languages.
• Excellent written communication skills to explain work clearly to team members and wider Stripe audiences.
