About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse II provides total nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with provider orders and under the guidance and supervision of the nurse in charge. This role delivers quality care while minimizing risks of infection, contamination, harm, or injury; documents patient information and care; performs specified laboratory tests; and provides patient education. The LVN may also precept LVNs and non-licensed clinical staff as directed and participate in performance improvement initiatives. The position is in JPS Health Network’s Correctional Health division in Fort Worth, Texas, with night hours from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Duties may change, and staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
Hold and maintain current Texas vocational nursing licensure through the Board of Nurse Examiners.
Hold and maintain current JPS-recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Complete the unit-specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days, if applicable.
For the Licensed Vocational Nurse II classification, 2 to 4.99 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver quality nursing care to assigned groups of patients while minimizing risks of infection, contamination, harm, or injury.
Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.
Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions.
Conduct specified laboratory tests.
Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
Complete documentation in accordance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
Provide patient education directed toward identified knowledge deficits.
Guide, educate, and provide leadership as a preceptor to LVNs and non-licensed clinical staff, as directed.
Participate in performance improvement initiatives within JPS Health Network and the assigned department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
