About The Position

The Shift Lead for Weld Fabrication oversees orbital tube welding, VPPA welding, and manual weld operations for the Lunar Lander program. The role leads technicians to ensure manufacturing activities are conducted safely, meet quality standards, and stay on schedule, while driving continuous improvement in cost, quality, delivery, and team performance. The position is based in Space Coast, Florida, on B shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Relocation is available. The shift lead coordinates production work, monitors performance, addresses shift-level production issues, and works with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve problems and maintain workflow. The role also supports first article builds, process validation, inspections, corrective actions, team development, and production-floor housekeeping and 5S standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 5 years of experience in OTW, VPPA, manual welding, aerospace structures, or a similar field.
At least 2 years of leadership or team lead experience in a production environment.
Experience in welding operations on various substrates.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.

Successful completion of Blue’s Standard Background Check is required.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or technical degree.
Experience with automated welding.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methods.
Knowledge of nonconformance systems and root cause corrective action (RCCA).
Experience working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise daily weld operations for the Lunar Lander program.
Assign and coordinate technician work activities to meet production schedules and milestones.
Ensure adherence to engineering specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
Monitor and drive cost, quality, and schedule performance metrics.
Serve as the primary point of contact for shift-level production issues, including escalation and resolution.
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and compliance with safety procedures.
Support first article builds, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve issues and maintain workflow.
Track labor hours, material usage, and productivity to support cost efficiency.
Coach, mentor, and provide performance feedback to technicians.
Maintain production records, logs, and shift reports.
Conduct shift start-up meetings and communicate priorities, risks, and goals.
Assign daily technician work scopes and adjust them based on production status.
Oversee trim and drill operations, ensuring precision, tool control, and process compliance.
Monitor part quality and support inspections to ensure conformance.
Address non-conformances, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
Track schedule progress and update leadership on status.
Ensure proper staffing levels and support team development.
Drive housekeeping and 5S standards on the production floor.
