About The Position

The LTL Operations Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) freight shipments for assigned customer accounts. This role serves as the primary operational contact for LTL customers, overseeing carrier selection, shipment booking, rating, tracking, exception management, and billing resolution within a third-party logistics environment. The LTL Operations Coordinator is accountable for delivering exceptional service, maintaining customer KPIs, and maximizing profitability across their account portfolio. This individual must have a strong command of LTL pricing structures, carrier networks, tariffs, and transit operations. They should be highly organized, customer-focused, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on LTL operations experience in a freight brokerage, 3PL, or carrier environment required.
  • Strong working knowledge of LTL carrier networks, tariff structures, NMFC freight classifications, and accessorial pricing.
  • Experience rating, booking, and managing LTL shipments across national and regional carriers (e.g., XPO, Estes, Old Dominion, Saia, ABF, FedEx Freight).
  • Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and LTL rating tools; ability to quickly learn new platforms.
  • Experience managing OS&D claims, freight invoice auditing, and carrier dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high shipment volumes while maintaining strong attention to detail and service quality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage customer expectations professionally and proactively.
  • Confident problem solver who can make sound decisions quickly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with data reporting and shipment tracking dashboards a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily LTL shipment operations for assigned customer accounts, including carrier selection, booking, tracking, and on-time delivery confirmation.
  • Prepare, review, and ensure accuracy of Bills of Lading (BOLs), shipping documents, and delivery receipts for all LTL shipments.
  • Quote LTL freight rates using carrier tariffs, class-based pricing (NMFC), and negotiated contract rates within the TMS.
  • Monitor shipments end-to-end and proactively communicate transit updates, delays, exceptions, and service failures to customers and internal teams.
  • Manage freight exception resolution including OS&D (overage, shortage, and damage) claims, missed pickups, carrier delays, and delivery issues.
  • Process and validate LTL freight invoices, identify billing discrepancies, and coordinate dispute resolution with carriers.
  • Maintain working knowledge of LTL carrier networks, service capabilities, transit times, and regional strengths to make optimal routing decisions.
  • Understand and apply NMFC freight classification, density-based pricing, and dimensional weight calculations when rating and quoting shipments.
  • Manage accessorial charges including liftgate, residential delivery, limited access, inside delivery, and redelivery fees.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with LTL carrier representatives to negotiate competitive rates and ensure service priority.
  • Identify needs and proactively present solutions to grow LTL volume and wallet share within existing customer accounts.
  • Collaborate with account managers, sales, and billing teams to ensure seamless customer experience and operational accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate shipment data in the TMS and identify any technical discrepancies between internal systems and customer platforms.
  • Track and report on customer KPIs including on-time performance, claim ratios, cost-per-shipment, and transit compliance.
  • Stay current on LTL market trends, carrier capacity changes, general rate increases (GRIs), and fuel surcharge fluctuations.
