About The Position

Under general supervision, performs specialized nursing work in the Robeson County Detention Center. Work involves administering medications, following physician’s orders, drawing blood, checking glucose levels and blood pressures of inmates. Employee also performs daily physicals and health assessments of individuals being booked in the detention center, and handling all emergency situations that arise and notifying proper officials and hospitals. Work also involves performing treatments as needed, cleansing and dressing wounds, and performing assigned medical rounds. Employee is also responsible for inventory of medical equipment and medications. Work also involves maintaining sanitation of work areas in infirmary and containing all contamination ensuring proper disposal of specimens, and syringes. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of nursing work, including potential exposure to communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Employee is able to exercise considerable tact, courtesy, discretion, firmness and fairness in contact with inmates.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program
  • LPN license and CPR certification required upon hire and duration of employment
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire and duration of employment
  • Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in patient care
  • 1 year of experience in mental health services
  • 1 year of experience in substance treatment
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
