About The Position

Essentia Health is seeking a licensed practical nurse, certified medical assistant, or medical assistant apprentice to float among orthopedics specialty practices at St. Mary’s Clinic in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The role assists registered nurses, physicians, and other providers and provides direct patient care in an ambulatory setting. Employees perform procedures for which they have demonstrated competency and care for patients ranging from newborns to older adults. The position offers a 32- or 40-hour weekly schedule. The stated schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no weekend, holiday, or on-call rotations. For the apprentice option, Essentia Health offers a 14-week paid training program through MedCerts, including onsite clinicals. Apprentices work under the guidance of a certified medical assistant or licensed practical nurse preceptor and commit to one year of employment as a medical assistant after completing the program. Upon graduation, the apprentice’s wage increases to $21.72 per hour. The LPN or medical assistant pay range is $21.72–$32.58 per hour, based on experience. The apprentice rate is $19.00 per hour. The position is based at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Clinic, which is connected to St. Mary’s Hospital and serves Becker County and surrounding communities. The clinic’s multidisciplinary team provides primary and specialty care, with access to hospital resources, diagnostic imaging, and surgical suites.

Requirements

LPN: Current LPN licensure with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.
Medical assistant: Current registration or certification as a medical assistant, or verifiable completion of a medical assistant program and certification within one year of hire. Certification must be passed within two attempts.
All roles: AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within three months of hire.
Apprentice: Complete the 14-week paid training program through MedCerts, including onsite clinicals, and commit to one year of work as a medical assistant after completion.

Responsibilities

Float among orthopedics specialty practices at St. Mary’s Clinic.
Assist registered nurses, physicians, and other providers in the ambulatory care setting.
Provide direct patient care to contribute to Essentia Health’s mission and goals.
Perform identified procedures after demonstrating competency.
Care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly.
As an apprentice, work under the guidance of a certified medical assistant or licensed practical nurse preceptor.
Upon completing the apprentice program, fulfill a one-year employment commitment as a medical assistant.
