LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - South OKC/Freestanding Emergency Department - Part-Time - Mid Shift

About The Position
Under general supervision, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides preventive and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in an OU Health facility. The role supports nursing assessment and provides care according to established nursing plans. It also involves monitoring patient condition, performing specified nursing procedures, administering medications as permitted, and assisting with routine examinations. An LPN may function as a Surgical Tech when the position is in the operating room.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of the education requirements for the NCLEX-PN examination.
- Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association upon hire.
- Current LPN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate LPN license (eNLC).
- Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
Responsibilities
- Assist with nursing assessments by collecting data, observing patients, and obtaining vital signs.
- Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
- Observe changes in patient condition and notify supervisory personnel of significant changes.
- Provide routine ostomy care; place and feed nasogastric tubes; and place and discontinue oral-gastric tubes.
- Initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
- Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
- Administer medications by oral, intravenous, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, sublingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical routes, as applicable.
- Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist physicians during examinations.
- Function as a Surgical Tech if the position is open in the operating room.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
