About The Position

Trevor Day School seeks candidates for an Art Teacher to join our Lower School community in a part-time capacity. This faculty member will lead and assist Preschool–5th Grade art education classes and collaborate with Trevor’s art department in planning and following a balanced visual arts program. The chosen candidate will work closely with the two other Lower School Art teachers in our dual-spaced art studio, delivering a curriculum that explores a wide variety of 2-D and 3-D media. All curriculum, materials, tools, and spaces are shared among the Lower School Art teaching team. We seek an experienced teacher who practices a materials-based, process-oriented art education philosophy and engages in a multicultural pedagogy. The successful candidate will track students’ progress and report clearly and effectively in both written and verbal form.

Requirements

  • Experience with teaching the artistic process at the elementary school level
  • Ability to collaborate closely and communicate effectively with a team
  • The desire to encourage lifelong learning through fostering artistic habits of mind and cultivating creative expression
  • Encouragement of the process of art making and problem solving over the end product
  • Experience in leading artistic explorations across a variety of 2-D and 3-D mediums and processes
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and to integrate artistic expression
  • A dedication to fostering students’ social and emotional well-being
  • A sense of humor, an interest in professional growth, a commitment to school-wide initiatives, and the ability to be both the lead and a team player

Responsibilities

  • Implementing a Preschool–5th Grade art education curriculum that incorporates the artistic process, supports skill development, and reflects a materials-based, multicultural, and process-oriented philosophy.
  • Planning lessons and tailoring instruction to meet students’ individual needs.
  • Collaborating closely with teachers and specialists regarding curriculum and student progress.
  • Coordinating with the faculty, families, and administrators to best support student growth.
  • Communicating about student progress through family conferences, home reports, and regular emails.
