About The Position

This is a long-term substitute teacher position for Grade 4 within Haverhill Public Schools for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves instructional, curriculum, and general duties as directed by the Principal, Supervisor, and Superintendent. The substitute teacher will work cooperatively with colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians, and will be responsible for covering daily lessons for absent professional staff. Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, respecting confidentiality, and adhering to district policies are key aspects of the role. The substitute will also provide a summary of activities and lesson plans to the regular classroom teacher and complete required staff training.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – preferred
  • Non-Certified Teachers, include individuals with a minimum of an Associate Degree or who have completed two years of college (60 credits).
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for instructional, curriculum and general duties as indicated by the Principal, Supervisor, and directives of the Superintendent.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, administrators and parents/guardians.
  • Substitute daily for absent professional staff as determined by the Principal/designee.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Must possess the ability to adapt to a variety of lesson plans when covering various subjects or grades.
  • Provides summary of activities accomplished, lesson plans completed and not completed and any other additional information that the classroom teacher should be aware of.
  • Maintains a safe and positive learning environment for all students and reports all student discipline issues to the appropriate authority.
  • Adheres to district policies for staff.
  • Annually completes the appropriate staff training and Substitute Handbook.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Principal or directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
