About The Position

Ascension Lutheran School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Music Teacher for Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. This position is responsible for providing music instruction, creating a positive and engaging learning environment, and developing students' musical skills, creativity, confidence, and appreciation for music. The role includes regular music curriculum instruction and preparation for the school's Christmas production and spring musical.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching music, preferably in an elementary and/or middle school setting.
  • Strong musical knowledge and performance skills.
  • Ability to teach students across a wide range of ages and musical abilities.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create engaging lessons that encourage participation and confidence.
  • A heart for working with children and a commitment to the mission and values of Ascension Lutheran School.
  • Bachelor's degree in music, education, or a related field preferred, but relevant experience and musical expertise will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience directing or assisting with school productions, musicals, or similar performances is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate music lessons for students in TK–8.
  • Provide instruction in singing, rhythm, music theory, music appreciation, movement, performance, and other musical skills.
  • Develop and follow a coherent music curriculum that supports student growth across grade levels.
  • Create a classroom environment that is joyful, respectful, orderly, and supportive of all learners.
  • Incorporate Christian faith and the mission of Ascension Lutheran School naturally into music instruction and classroom life.
  • Assess student learning and provide appropriate feedback and encouragement.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom routines, expectations, and communication with students and families.
  • Prepare students for performances and other school-wide musical opportunities.
  • Continue preparations for the Christmas production, including rehearsals, student assignments, music selection, and coordination with school staff.
  • Begin and/or continue preparations for the spring musical, including reviewing existing plans and materials, organizing music and rehearsals, and establishing a clear foundation for the production.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, school administration, and other staff as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with the Principal regarding curriculum, student progress, performances, and production needs.
  • Maintain appropriate records and materials related to music instruction and productions.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, chapel, and other school activities as reasonably required.
