Job Summary The Long-Term Substitute Teacher provides consistent instruction, supervision, and classroom management during an extended absence of the regular classroom teacher. The position follows established curriculum, lesson plans, and school policies while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher also supports the mission of Catholic education by serving as a positive role model and fostering an environment grounded in faith, respect, service, and Christian values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant educational experience preferred.
  • Previous classroom or educational experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, classroom-management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow established curriculum and lesson plans while responding appropriately to student needs.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Dependable, flexible, patient, and able to work independently.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred, as applicable to school and diocesan requirements.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, safeguarding training, and other school or diocesan requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and implement established lesson plans, curriculum, and instructional expectations.
  • Provide engaging, age-appropriate instruction and support student learning and academic progress.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.
  • Take attendance and maintain required classroom records and documentation.
  • Monitor student understanding and progress and provide appropriate support for varying learning needs.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and other assigned activities.
  • Communicate student progress, classroom needs, and concerns to the principal and appropriate school staff.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with parents and guardians as directed by school administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and school matters.
  • Participate in required school meetings, professional development, prayer, and other school activities.
  • Support the Catholic identity of the school through prayer, Christian example, and the integration of Catholic values into the school day.
  • Provide organized records and relevant information for the returning classroom teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or school administration.
