About The Position

The Logistics Specialist Intern will participate in an 11-week summer internship program at Werner Enterprises, applying classroom learning to real-world experience on the PowerLink team. The intern will gain direct exposure to power-only operations, carrier relationship management, and power-only capacity solutions. The role includes operational workflows, carrier outreach, load and rate management, and analysis of booking and carrier acceptance data.

The internship also includes development activities such as Lessons with Leaders sessions, a mentor program, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation. Requirements

• Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• Strong Excel proficiency and aptitude for data-driven problem solving.
• Strong communication skills for negotiating with carriers and collaborating across internal teams.
• High attention to detail when validating load documentation, rate confirmations, and compliance data.

Responsibilities

• Participate in PowerLink team huddles to review margin performance, lane volume, and service updates.
• Shadow PowerLink leaders to learn real-time pricing strategies, spot market dynamics, and carrier negotiations.
• Execute operational workflows, including load coverage verification, carrier outreach, and tracking power-only assets.
• Develop relationships with outside carriers to provide consistent capacity.
• Analyze booking lead times and carrier acceptance rates to evaluate the impact of pre-booking on lane margins.
• Support capacity sourcing initiatives, carrier onboarding outreach, and incentive program tracking.
• Manage load creation, rate management, and documentation.
