About The Position

The Logistics Specialist Intern will join Werner Enterprises’ PowerLink team for an 11-week summer internship. The program connects classroom learning with real-world experience and provides direct exposure to power-only operations, carrier relationship management, and power-only capacity solutions. The intern will participate in operational workflows and team discussions, learn pricing and carrier negotiation strategies by shadowing PowerLink leaders, and support capacity sourcing, carrier outreach, and load management. The internship also includes development activities such as leadership sessions, mentoring, networking, community support events, and a summer project proposal and presentation.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
Strong Excel proficiency and aptitude for data-driven problem solving.
Strong communication skills for negotiating with carriers and collaborating across internal teams.
High attention to detail when validating load documentation, rate confirmations, and compliance data.

Responsibilities

Participate in PowerLink team huddles reviewing margin performance, lane volume, and service updates.
Shadow PowerLink leaders to learn real-time pricing strategies, spot market dynamics, and carrier negotiations.
Execute operational workflows, including load coverage verification, carrier outreach, and tracking power-only assets.
Develop relationships with outside carriers to provide consistent capacity.
Analyze booking lead times and carrier acceptance rates to evaluate the impact of pre-booking on lane margins.
Support capacity sourcing initiatives, carrier onboarding outreach, and incentive program tracking.
Manage load creation, rate management, and documentation.
