The Logistics Coordinator is the operational hub of the Internal Drive Team, with sole dispatch authority across all regions. This role proactively coordinates the timely movement of manufacturing components, rebuilding shop transfers, and bulk equipment moves between company facilities. The Logistics Coordinator manages driver assignments, prioritizes competing requests based on operational impact, oversees driver welfare including lodging decisions, coordinates roadside assistance, and serves as the primary point of escalation for the Drive Team. The role encompasses supply chain process flow, inventory movement oversight, freight analysis, data entry, invoice auditing, and quality service assurance for internal transportation operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Some previous work-related skills, knowledge or experience preferred, including office procedures, telephone propriety and filing management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the sole dispatch authority for the Internal Drive Team across all regions during business hours, coordinating the timely movement of manufacturing components, rebuild shop transfers, and bulk equipment between company locations.
  • Reviews, approves, and assigns all internal movement requests; dispatches drivers based on availability, proximity, workload balance, and vehicle suitability, and authorizes cross-region deployment when local capacity is insufficient.
  • Classifies all requests into the appropriate priority level based on production impact and operational necessity; resolves competing priorities using the defined tiebreaker sequence and escalates unresolved conflicts to the Command Center Director.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all Drive Team drivers and leads the daily 7:00 AM stand-up briefing covering route assignments, driver availability, safety alerts, and carry-over issues.
  • Communicates job-specific information to Logistics Management, Operations Management, and internal requestors, including permit requirements, location access, and special handling; conducts pre-job setup and verifies project documentation.
  • Performs end-of-shift handoffs to the Operations Command Center (OCC) and receives morning handoffs covering after-hours driver activity, incidents, and open items requiring follow-up.
  • Determines appropriate lodging (cab rest vs. hotel) for each route based on vehicle capability, weather, safety, and driver condition; books hotel lodging through approved vendors and ensures drivers receive proper per diem consistent with company policy.
  • Coordinates roadside assistance during business hours, dispatching the approved provider for breakdowns, tire service, towing, and related needs; notifies the Command Center Director for any event involving injury, accident, or significant delay.
  • Monitors and minimizes freight-related costs; performs standard invoice auditing, captures required load information (timestamps, mileage, fuel, exceptions) and conducts cost/benefit analysis on route alternatives and deployment options.
  • Maintains the dispatch log, ensures all escalations and incidents are documented within required timeframes, compiles daily regional performance summaries, and performs other duties as required.
