About The Position
This contract position offers an on-site working arrangement and provides a compelling opportunity for a skilled physician to deliver exceptional patient care within a reputable medical practice environment. As part of our ongoing commitment to clinical excellence, this role is instrumental in supporting patients facing complex blood disorders and malignancies. As a Locum MD in Hematology Oncology, you will provide comprehensive medical evaluation, treatment planning, and ongoing management for patients with hematologic conditions and oncologic diagnoses. Your expertise will directly contribute to the quality of care delivered across our practice, collaborating closely with nurses, advanced practice providers, and support staff to ensure seamless, patient-centered treatment journeys.
Requirements
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
- Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology and/or Oncology
- Active and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Virginia
- Strong clinical knowledge of hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and supportive care
- Experience with chemotherapy administration and management of treatment-related toxicities
- Excellent diagnostic, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
- Superior patient communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, on-site clinical environment
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation standards
- Current BLS and/or ACLS certification
- Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and ethical practice standards
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and diagnose patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical guidelines
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other systemic therapies
- Review and interpret laboratory results, pathology reports, and imaging studies
- Provide comprehensive patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and side effects
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, radiologists, and support services
- Document patient encounters accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record system
- Participate in tumor board discussions and case conferences as required
- Manage acute oncologic emergencies and provide appropriate follow-up care
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory, safety, and institutional protocols
- Communicate effectively with patients and families to ensure understanding and informed consent
