About The Position

KMBC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Kansas City, is hiring a Local News Producer to create meaningful, memorable live newscasts. The producer should bring creative vision, make decisions and communicate plans, pursue major stories, handle breaking news, and present important weather information. The role requires speed, accuracy, and effective collaboration with newsroom professionals. The producer selects, researches, and writes live-news content; guides reporters in story production; coordinates the creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff; and booths and times assigned newscasts, breaking-news coverage, and weather events. In-person attendance is required. The schedule may include holidays, nights, weekends, and overnights, with flexibility to respond to breaking news.

Requirements

Professional or college producing experience.
Experience working in a newsroom.
Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
Ability to coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
Experience summarizing information into easy-to-understand components.
Creative presentation style and ability to showcase available resources and elements.
Highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
Availability to work holidays and shifts that may include nights, weekends, and overnights, and flexibility to respond to breaking news.
In-person attendance is required.
