Local CDL Driver
About The Position
Behr Iron & Metal, an Alter Company, is hiring a Local CDL Driver in South Beloit, Illinois. The driver operates a truck to pick up metal within a specified area, waits to be loaded by Alter or a customer, and transports loads to a customer or Alter facility. Drivers secure loads according to the type of truck or box and follow company safety standards, including conducting inspections, using personal protective equipment, and attending monthly safety meetings. The role also involves communicating with the dispatcher about delays, unsafe routes, accidents, and equipment breakdowns, as well as completing other responsibilities as assigned. Local driving is short-haul exempt, and drivers are home daily.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL.
- At least 1 year of prior commercial driving experience.
- Ability to drive manual trucks.
- MVR must meet the company's safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Operate a truck to pick up metal within a specified area.
- Wait to be loaded by Alter or a customer and transport loads to a customer or Alter.
- Secure loads according to the type of truck or box.
- Follow company safety standards, including inspections, use of PPE, and attendance at monthly safety meetings.

- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
