Loads & Dynamics Engineer

Saronic Technologies•Austin, TX

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Load & Dynamics Engineer to work on autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for the Department of Defense. The engineer will model and analyze forces acting on autonomous vessels, simulate vehicle behavior, develop load-response models, and validate hardware for real-world environments. This interdisciplinary role combines dynamics, structural integrity, and system performance to help ensure vessels meet operational requirements for performance and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience with dynamics, particularly structural or fluid dynamics, focused on vehicle response to external forces.
  • Strong experience with dynamic simulation and load analysis using industry-standard tools.
  • Proven ability to conduct testing and analyze data to assess load dynamics in complex systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and commercial finite element modeling tools such as NASTRAN.
  • Hands-on experience with dynamic analysis and hardware testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience modeling fluid-structure interaction, particularly in maritime environments.
  • Knowledge of naval architecture and experience with hull, propulsion, and stability dynamics.
  • Expertise in vibration, shock, and fatigue testing for large-scale marine or autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with control systems and integration of autonomous technologies within physical vessel systems.
  • Experience in defense-related industries, particularly with DoD contractors or government programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of structural integrity and failure mechanisms related to dynamic loading conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and resolve dynamic load-related problems affecting autonomous surface vessels using analysis, simulation, and field data.
  • Develop finite element and lumped element models to simulate vessel response to waves, wind, and operational stress.
  • Conduct dynamic testing from pre-test analysis through sensor selection and installation, test execution, data analysis, signal processing, and model validation.
  • Own system-level dynamic analysis and recommend hardware or design changes across engineering teams to improve vessel performance under dynamic conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and refine vehicle designs for load-bearing capability and compliance with operational and defense standards.
  • Simulate autonomous vessel behavior in complex environments, including turbulent water, harsh weather, and operational maneuvers.
  • Write and modify software for dynamic modeling, simulation, and analysis using commercial and in-house platforms.
