Loads & Dynamics Engineer

Saronic Technologies•Austin, TX

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Load & Dynamics Engineer to work on autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) for the Department of Defense. The role focuses on modeling and analyzing forces acting on autonomous vessels to ensure they meet performance and safety requirements. The engineer will simulate vessel behavior, develop load-response models, and validate hardware for real-world environments, drawing on dynamics, structural integrity, and system-performance expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience with dynamics, particularly structural or fluid dynamics focused on vehicle response to external forces.
  • Strong experience with dynamic simulation and load analysis using industry-standard tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct testing and data analysis to assess load dynamics in complex systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and commercial finite element modeling tools such as NASTRAN.
  • Hands-on experience with dynamic analysis and hardware testing.
  • Experience modeling fluid-structure interaction, particularly in maritime environments.
  • Knowledge of naval architecture and experience with hull, propulsion, and stability dynamics.
  • Expertise in vibration, shock, and fatigue testing as applied to large-scale marine or autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with control systems and integrating autonomous technologies within physical vessel systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of structural integrity and failure mechanisms related to dynamic loading conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in defense-related industries, particularly with DoD contractors or government programs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and resolve dynamic load-related problems affecting autonomous surface vessels using analysis, simulation, and field data.
  • Develop finite element and lumped element models to simulate vessel responses to waves, wind, and operational stress.
  • Conduct dynamic testing from pre-test analysis through sensor selection and installation, test execution, data analysis, signal processing, and model validation.
  • Own system-level dynamic analysis and recommend hardware or design changes across engineering teams to improve vessel performance under dynamic conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and refine vehicle designs for load-bearing capability and compliance with operational and defense standards.
  • Conduct simulations to predict autonomous vessel behavior in complex environments, including turbulent water, harsh weather, and operational maneuvers.
  • Write and modify software supporting dynamic modeling, simulation, and analysis using commercial and in-house platforms.
