About The Position

O'Neal Steel is hiring a Loader at its Shelbyville, Indiana facility. The Loader loads and unloads material in a warehouse, using material-handling equipment to move products to and from trucks or trains and around the storage facility. The role follows commonly used practices, procedures, instructions, and established guidelines. Loading duties make up at least 70% of the work. Overtime is required as needed. The position requires safely preparing customer deliveries, including multi-stop loads, and balancing loads to comply with DOT weight regulations for legal and over-dimensional loads. The Loader verifies material, quantities, packaging, and special shipping instructions; provides high-quality work to internal and external customers; learns product knowledge and handling and rigging procedures; and maintains a safe, organized work area while following established safety procedures. Candidates must pass a criminal background check and drug test upon offer of employment.

Requirements

Ability to operate a wide variety of material-handling equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, stacker cranes, side loaders, and yard dogs.
Critical-thinking skills for planning and problem-solving.
Ability to safely load multi-stop customer deliveries.
Strong understanding of load balancing to meet DOT weight regulations for legal and over-dimensional loads.
Ability to verify material, quantity, packaging, and special instructions for shipped orders.
Ability to use hand tools, including grinders, banders, drills, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches.
Ability to learn and retain product knowledge and standard handling and rigging procedures across products.
Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
Ability to maintain a safe and organized work area and follow established safety procedures.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug test upon offer of employment.

Responsibilities

Load and unload material within a warehouse and move it to and from trucks or trains and within the storage facility.

Verify the accuracy of material, quantity, packaging, and special instructions for each order being shipped.

Perform loading duties at least 70% of the time.
