About The Position

The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks to employ an individual in a 12-month Lecturer position that would provide leadership to the department’s livestock evaluation and selection program and serve as coach of the Ohio State Livestock Judging team. This position will have a teaching emphasis with the responsibility of teaching livestock evaluation approaches to undergraduate students. Instruction includes courses aimed at preparing students for livestock evaluation. Additional teaching responsibilities and student advising is expected and will depend on departmental needs and the applicant’s area of disciplinary expertise. Collaboration with other faculty and staff in youth extension programming is required. The successful candidate will contribute to the educational mission of the department through teaching of undergraduate courses and outreach education and will serve as coach of the Ohio State Livestock Judging teams. Evening and weekend travel is required. The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with faculty and staff providing leadership for 4-H, FFA, and other youth programs in recruiting prospective students to the Ohio State College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to provide oversight for strategic utilization and growth of endowed and non-endowed funds that provide the funding to support livestock judging team activities. Engagement with industry stakeholders is expected. Our college has a rich history of livestock judging alumni who were members of the Ohio State competitive judging teams, as well as other stakeholders, who value livestock evaluation experiences as an important aspect of the educational endeavors of the department and college.

Requirements

  • Earned M.S. in animal sciences or a related discipline.
  • Evidence of effective teaching practice in livestock evaluation and judging
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to work closely with diverse groups of academic (e.g., students, staff, faculty) and industry audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in and/or experience with teaching, recruiting, mentoring, and advising students.

  • Demonstrate an ability to cultivate inclusive learning environments.
  • Provide oversight and strategic utilization of funding in support of team activities and identify new revenue streams.
  • Represent the department, college, university, and professional communities through industry engagement.
