About The Position

Field work executing a comprehensive, effective and efficient program and public education campaigns related to elimination of litter in designated areas of the City. Work is performed under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an acceptable equivalent, with knowledge of sanitation and litter prevention practices, or three (3) years of related sanitation experience.
  • Knowledge of current recycling techniques.
  • Knowledge of material processing and collection procedures.
  • Knowledge of waste authority policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic computer office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to interface with solid waste haulers.
  • Ability to write various reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.
  • Be appropriately groomed and attired so as to present a professional image in accordance with the organization’s mission, goals, and policies.
  • Report for work promptly and properly prepared at the time and place required by the assignment or orders.
  • Notify the appropriate supervisor of intended absences in accordance with stated rules.
  • Conform with standards and rules regarding use of accrued time.
  • Demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Operate and care for equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the comprehensive Clean City Program by documenting current conditions throughout the City; keep informed of codes and ordinances affecting the abatement of litter; explore alternatives and best practices that may be implemented.
  • Perform clean-up projects in designated areas; remove litter, debris, and graffiti.
  • Maintain bus stops in the City by removing litter, trash, and graffiti.
  • Keep accurate daily and monthly logs.
  • Work with homeowner groups and perform public education campaigns designed to increase resident participation in litter abatement and raise public awareness of environmental issues; conduct public presentations, publicize special events.
  • Track and manage supplies associated with the litter abatement program, ensure expenses are appropriately documented and provide progress reports.
  • Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-side basis.
