Lab Technician- 10:00 PM Shift (10:00 PM - 06:30 AM)
About The Position
The Lab Technician will perform analysis of wine and grape components. This role involves sampling and performing various analyses on grape juice, fermenting juice, bottled wine, and wines in storage. The technician will use instruments such as gas chromatograph, CO2 analyzer, alcolyzer, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autotitrator, and chemistry analyzer. Accurate interpretation of analytical results and adherence to strict record-keeping policies are essential. The position requires working under pressure with multiple requests and deadlines, chemical preparation, and understanding the Food Safety and Quality Management System, including SQF standards. The technician is also responsible for reporting food safety system problems to their supervisor, working safely, and maintaining a clean work station.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in the sciences
- One or more years in similar position or in an academic lab environment
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and work well with a team
- Valid California Driver’s license and clean DMV report
Nice To Haves
- Related science degree preferred
- Courses in enology or familiarity with winemaking and an appreciation of wine a plus
Responsibilities
- Sample and perform pH, TA, brix, and nutritional analysis on grape juice and fermenting juice
- Sample and perform various analyses on bottled wine and wines in storage
- Perform basic wine analysis using instruments such as gas chromatograph, CO2 analyzer, alcolyzer, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autotitrator and chemistry analyzer
- Read and interpret analytical results accurately and efficiently, adhering to strict record keeping policies
- Work under pressure with multiple requests, deadlines and prioritization of samples
- Chemical preparation (acids, bases, buffers, reference standards)
- Responsible for understanding the Food Safety and Quality Management System and related activities, including SQF standards
- Report problems with the food safety system to supervisor
- Work safely and maintain a clean, organized work station
- Perform other duties as assigned
