About The Position

Harford Mutual Insurance Group is seeking a Litigation Specialist to investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex, high-severity, and/or atypical commercial casualty claims. The position exercises independent discretion and judgment in handling high-severity claims and oversees cases in litigation, collaborating with and directing outside defense counsel. The role is hybrid, with an office location in Bel Air, Maryland. Requirements

Minimum four-year degree or comparable work experience.
At least 7 years of industry experience.
Completion of, or participation in, the AIC program.
Knowledge and understanding of the litigation process.
Ability to understand and analyze insurance coverage.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

Responsibilities

Investigate complex, high-severity, and/or atypical commercial casualty claims.
Evaluate insurance coverage.
Negotiate settlements.
Review new lawsuits and recommend how they should be handled.
Identify complex, high-exposure claims.
Monitor defense counsel’s adherence to litigation procedures.
Attend mediations virtually and in person.
Attend trials, settlement conferences, and other discovery processes.
Review and establish appropriate reserves.
Provide necessary information to reinsurers and affiliates.
Oversee litigated cases in collaboration with and by directing outside defense counsel.
