About The Position

Enhances attorney effectiveness by independently handling aspects of discharge planning and mental hygiene litigation with minimal supervision. This role requires a paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies and 5 or more years of litigation experience. The position reports to the Partner and Paralegal Manager.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies
  • 5 or more years of litigation experience
  • Ability to work 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Must be available for overtime
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and work independently
  • Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information
  • Knowledge of legal research methods
  • Good typing skills, thorough and accurate
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Elite 3E Workplace Time Entry timekeeping program or similar program
  • Familiarity with NetDocuments document management system or similar system
  • Well-developed interpersonal and client relation skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, serve and file court papers for discharge planning and mental hygiene litigation
  • Coordinate filings with process server
  • Communicate extensively with clients
  • Prepare Firm audit response letters
  • Draft correspondence and assist with calendaring
  • Handle electronic filing and service of legal documents for New Jersey, New York and Connecticut state courts, All Federal Courts, Surrogate’s Court and Bankruptcy Court
  • Conduct Legal Research and gather relevant information from a variety of sources
  • Assist in organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices
  • Cite check and shepardize briefs
  • Assist in bate stamping of documents, hyperlinking and bookmarking
  • Willing to cross train in other areas of law
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required to meet needs of Firm
