About The Position

J. Hartley Law, APC is seeking a full-time Litigation Paralegal to join their El Segundo, CA-based team. This role is essential within their growing firm and is ideal for a bilingual (Spanish/English) paralegal who thrives in a fast-paced, supportive environment and wants to make a meaningful impact. This position goes beyond support work, playing a key part in moving cases forward efficiently, spotting gaps, and ensuring no opportunity for clients is missed.

Requirements

  • At least 3–5 years of paralegal experience in personal injury litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of California procedures and case strategy.
  • Strong foundation in personal injury litigation with proven success in handling discovery and drafting motions.
  • Substantial experience with premises liability cases.
  • Sharp eye for reviewing, organizing, and interpreting medical records, understanding what’s relevant, what’s missing, and how those details shape the strength of the case.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to anticipate case needs before they arise.
  • Precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, and move cases forward without waiting for instruction.
  • Excited to grow with the firm, learn directly from an experienced trial attorney, and contribute meaningfully to a positive, collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and respond to discovery using working knowledge of litigation and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Proactively identify missing information, anticipate next steps, and take initiative to fill in gaps.
  • Assist in reviewing discovery responses and draft meet and confer letters to address deficiencies.
  • Support case strategy by applying strategic foresight and an investigative mindset to evaluate case strengths, especially in nuanced areas like premises liability and complex medical injuries.
  • Leverage deep understanding of personal injury litigation to surface key facts, identify leverage points, and support the attorney with insights needed to drive impactful legal decisions.
  • Analyze and compile medical records with an investigative eye, ensuring completeness and accuracy while anticipating critical details.
  • Highlight relevant facts and organize materials to support a clear, strategic presentation of the client’s injuries.
  • Assist in preparing clients for depositions by identifying key issues, gathering essential documents, and clarifying important injury details.
  • Assist with drafting and organizing basic motions and filing legal documents.
  • Initiate contact with expert witnesses, assemble and organize case materials, and ensure timely delivery of documents.
  • Take ownership of case timelines, helping move matters efficiently through litigation by tracking deadlines and clearing bottlenecks.
  • Serve as a steady, compassionate point of contact for clients, answering questions, guiding them through the litigation process, and helping ease concerns.
  • Work closely with the attorney and the team to keep cases moving efficiently, share insights, and step in where needed to maintain momentum.
