About The Position

This position is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support for lawyers in the advocacy group of the Calgary office. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated and highly organized, has superior computer, proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an active litigation practice
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Familiarity with insolvency matters would be an asset
  • Experience working on Federal Court filings would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills
  • Ability to maintain an efficient electronic file system using strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple deadlines under time constraints
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients

Responsibilities

  • Transcribing digital dictation, creating documents from standard forms or handwritten notes and editing various legal documents
  • Preparing court materials such as application records, books of authorities, appeal records and appeal books
  • Maintaining lawyers’ calendar and contacts, scheduling client appointments as directed and arranging travel schedules as necessary
  • Organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks and completing them under time constraints
  • Performing client conflict checks, opening new client matters and maintaining established files
  • Preparing client billings, responding to billing inquiries and coordinating with clients for billing preference
  • Maintaining an efficient manual and electronic file system, having strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
