About The Position

Aird & Berlis LLP is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join their Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. This role will provide support to multiple lawyers and is ideal for a candidate with strong administrative litigation experience and excellent communication skills. Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ previous experience as a Legal Assistant in Litigation.
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Previous experience with ACL is considered an asset.
  • Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, service, and filing of litigation materials before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Federal Courts, including but not limited to motion records, pleadings, notices, affidavits, affidavits of documents, oral hearing compendiums, and bills of costs.
  • Demonstrated experience using Case Centre for the preparation and management of electronic hearing materials.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple active litigation files in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and applicable court practice directions.
  • Experience with trial and hearing support.
  • Prepare, edit and complete all necessary correspondence and documentation.
  • Handle administrative details with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, and billing, etc.
  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients.
  • Manage duties related to accounting.
  • Accountable for all work assigned.
