About The Position

Platt Richmond is seeking a Litigation Associate to join their growing practice. This role is designed for someone responsible for a broad range of commercial litigation matters both in Texas and across the country including contract, fraud, intellectual property, defamation, real estate, creditor’s rights, class action defense and other business disputes. This role requires varied knowledge of the litigation process in state and federal courts and excellent base litigation skills including legal research, writing, strategy development, hearings, depositions, and trial preparation. This role will work closely with other partners, associate attorneys and paralegals.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of commercial litigation experience involving business disputes and causes of action
  • Experience litigating commercial disputes in both State and Federal Courts.
  • Strong experience drafting motions, including Temporary Restraining Orders, Motions for Summary Judgment, Pretrial Motions, and Motions relating to discovery disputes.
  • Extensive experience drafting and managing varied and tailored discovery over a wide variety of cases
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in projects, rather than a “finish the task and forget about it” approach
  • Excellent communication and grammatical skills, both verbal and written
  • Genuine, authentic personality
  • Team player; takes direction well; receptive to constructive feedback
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • J.D. and Texas Bar Admittance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with creditor’s rights litigation and appeals are preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload and assist in all facets of the litigation practice
  • Draft motions, discovery, and legal briefs
  • Take fact and expert depositions
  • Appear for court hearings
  • Litigation strategy development and trial preparation and practice
  • Take real ownership of your work instead of just supporting a small piece of it
  • Assume significant responsibility for, and expected ownership of, the management of varied commercial cases or tasks with Partner oversight
  • Receive dedicated and insightful mentorship from seasoned attorneys
  • attend to, and manage time over, caseloads and assist in all facets of the litigation practice
  • Manage and delegate appropriate tasks to paralegals
  • Take ownership of cases and tasks to drive cases forward
  • Assist partners on a broad range of commercial litigation cases
  • Prepare motions, discovery and legal briefs
  • Conduct legal due diligence, including fact checking and expert depositions
