Literacy Support Tutor Student Worker (CSLP FWS)
About The Position
Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) to improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with Ocotillo Elementary, located at 3225 W Ocotillo Road, Phoenix, AZ, 85017, which is part of the Washington Elementary School District. Ocotillo Elementary is committed to providing differentiated learning opportunities that support academic success for all students. This position is approved as Community Service (CSLP) and offers services to non-GCU community members. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.
Requirements
- Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
- Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
- Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Nice To Haves
- Previous Mentoring a plus.
- Ability to speak a second language a plus.
Responsibilities
- Work with small student groups to increase literacy skill and reading proficiency.
- Teach engaging and supportive lessons to meet student’s individual needs.
- Model and reinforce peer support, good decision-making, and conflict resolution.
- Prepare materials to support lesson execution.
- Other duties as required.
