The Literacy Support Specialist will provide districtwide oversight and leadership for the implementation of Michigan's dyslexia legislation, including Public Act 146. This role ensures that instructional practices, assessments, interventions, documentation, and professional learning align with state requirements. The specialist will also model effective instructional strategies, facilitate study groups, coach and mentor colleagues, and train teachers in data analysis and differentiation. Additionally, the specialist will work with teachers to ensure fidelity in the implementation of evidence-based reading programs, train teachers to diagnose and address reading deficiencies, help increase instruction density, and support reading leadership teams. The role involves continuous learning in best practices in reading instruction and intervention, and modeling/coaching whole- and small-group instruction with students in grades K-3.
