About The Position
This is a limited-term position focused on providing leadership in the implementation and continuous improvement of structured literacy programs. The role involves applying Science of Reading and evidence-based practices to program execution, quality assurance, and educator preparation support. The coordinator will disseminate best practices, facilitate professional development, and oversee structured literacy observation placements. Collaboration with higher education institutions, state agencies (NMPED, NMECD), and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) is crucial for ensuring alignment with state standards and facilitating statewide literacy initiatives. The position also involves tracking candidate performance, supporting reporting requirements, and leading continuous improvement efforts related to structured literacy.
Requirements
- Experience in implementing and improving structured literacy programs.
- Knowledge of Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices.

- Familiarity with aligning coursework, syllabi, and clinical experiences with specific requirements.

- Experience coordinating with state and local education agencies.
- Ability to track candidate performance on assessments.
- Skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

- Ability to identify barriers, gaps, and opportunities and propose solutions.

Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the implementation and continuous improvement of structured literacy, applying Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices.
- Disseminate best practices and facilitate professional development for Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs), mentor teachers, and district staff.
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the required 100-hour structured literacy observation placements, ensuring LETRS-trained mentor teacher participation, placement scheduling/logistics, and consistent high-fidelity observation quality assurance.
- Ensure alignment of coursework, syllabi, and clinical experiences with structured literacy requirements.
- Collaborate with higher education institutions and EPPs to verify alignment with state standards, HB 156 requirements, and accrediting bodies.
- Coordinate with NMPED, NMECD, and LEAs on literacy placements and statewide literacy initiatives, facilitating cross-agency communication, supporting MOU development, and coordinating joint planning sessions.
- Track candidate performance on literacy-related assessments.
- Support state and accreditation reporting by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to literacy placements, mentor observations, and candidate outcomes.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to structured literacy within EPPs, including process reviews, data-driven decision-making, and implementation refinements.
- Identify barriers, gaps, and opportunities for policy or program adjustments and propose solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
