About The Position

As a Linux Systems Engineer at Espy, you will join a growing team creating state-of-the-art systems that provide critical signals intelligence to government customers. You will have the autonomy to lead us into the latest advances in edge-computing hardware, machine learning, and software technologies as we constantly adapt to a fast-moving environment and increase the value of our products. You will architect and own the automated Linux installation process for servers, workstations, and small rugged compute devices, all while ensuring our products meet strict cybersecurity requirements. Your work will ensure our systems remain stable, reliable, and available when mission calls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical area: CompE, ECE, CS, MIS
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience
  • Expertise in Linux provisioning on bare metal using kickstart
  • Fluent in Linux CLI and scripting languages (bash, python)
  • Highly skilled with automation tools such as ansible for system configuration and compliance
  • Thorough understanding of computer architecture and performance
  • Experience using and administering Atlassian suite

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with docker containerization
  • Experience with performance monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Experience with managing switch routing for multiple 10 GbE multicast packet streams
  • Familiarity with Linux software development environment (git, cmake, C++)
  • Comfort with CI/CD pipelines in a Linux context
  • Ability to program in C++, Node.js, or WebGL
  • Experience integrating NVIDIA GPUs for machine learning
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks, or other hardening standards
  • Familiarity with CMMC Level 2 / NIST 800-171 compliance environments
  • Ability to track and patch CVEs/IAVAs for Linux packages
  • Willingness to travel 2-3 times per year

Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain automated, compliant-by-default Linux deployment pipelines that balance demanding mission performance with CMMC/NIST standards
  • Own the operating system lifecycle to enable reliable deployment and easy patching of remote devices operating on air-gapped networks
  • Drive the hardware roadmap for next generation GPU-accelerated edge compute nodes
  • Benchmark and fine-tune performance of our product and work with web team to make real-time health metrics visible to the customer
  • Provide tier 2+ engineering support to colleagues and customers working on deployed systems
  • Stay current of industry advances and professional education, bringing new technologies to bear on emerging problems
  • Proactively identify ways to improve and provide solutions
