About The Position

The Line Driver - Days position is responsible for various tasks related to the storage and retrieval of goods within the workplace storage area. This role involves operating an industrial forklift and using a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. The operator will follow written or verbal instructions to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines. Additionally, the position requires performing minor equipment service, conducting daily safety inspections, and identifying/reporting any noted problems to a supervisor. Responsibilities also include changing fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, troubleshooting repairs, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. The role involves creating product labels, reading and understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules, as well as completing various reports and entering data into a computer program. Basic tools will be used, and partial pallets may need to be consolidated. The operator must be proficient in maneuvering a forklift in tight spaces while ensuring a safe work zone for others. Participation as a team member is crucial, involving communication, implementation of team concepts, and fostering cohesiveness. The role also requires familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back forklift up safely, which requires turning neck and body in opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar.
  • Knowledge of FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time.
  • Knowledge of RFGEN and JDE.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain company-issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving.
  • Preferred experience working with large moving equipment.
  • Shipping and receiving knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the storage area.
  • Rotate stock so oldest materials are used first.
  • Note and report any damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Store product using an industrial forklift and a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking.
  • Pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers using a forklift.
  • Perform minor service of equipment and complete written daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report noted problems to supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Change fuel bottles, refuel forklift, or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
  • Maintain the work area, dock, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Adhere to storage design principles and recommend improvements.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter required information into computer program efficiently and timely.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
