About The Position

The SoLa Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of SoLa Impact, works to end intergenerational poverty in South Los Angeles through community development and creating new access to economic and educational opportunities for youth and adults. Focusing on underinvested communities, SoLa increases access to jobs, mentorship, scholarships, skills-based technology programs and placement in the most competitive fields of tech, entertainment, and business. The Center will work to train and inspire a new generation of professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs at the intersection of technology, the arts and live entertainment. The 60th St Cafe is on a mission to train and inspire the next generation of culinary professionals and entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities. We are looking for a Line Cook who is deeply passionate about working with youth and young adults to inspire their most significant potential in culinary arts and leadership. We’re looking for a reliable, fast-paced Line Cook who’s passionate about cooking and community. The Line Cook will assist in preparing meals for our café, catering events, and community programming while ensuring food quality and kitchen cleanliness meet the highest standards.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably in café, bistro, or catering environment.
  • Basic knowledge of culinary techniques and kitchen safety standards
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and evenings as needed
  • Solid knowledge of food safety, knife skills, prep techniques, and basic cooking methods.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen.
  • Commitment to excellence and consistency in food preparation and presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and passion for community service and mentorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training or certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients and perform basic cooking tasks (e.g., chopping, mixing, sautéing, grilling, assembling).
  • Assist in executing daily café and catering menus with precision, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and labeling procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor food inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to the Chef in Residence or Café Manager.
  • Assist with dishwashing and cleaning of the kitchen as needed.
  • Support student interns and culinary trainees in learning prep and line cooking tasks.
  • Demonstrate best practices in kitchen safety, sanitation, and time management.
  • Create a positive and respectful learning environment for all student workers.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service.
  • Support special events, catering services, and menu launches led by the Chef in Residence.
