About The Position

Applications are being accepted from qualified individuals for a Limited Term position at the Lecturer rank or Instructor rank, in the Department of History effective July 1, 2026 (the anticipated start date) to June 30, 2028. This is a two-year appointment. The Department has teaching needs in the history of the ancient Mediterranean world, Roman history in particular. Teaching assignments will include historical surveys of Roman history, courses on the literary and material culture of the ancient Mediterranean world, and courses on the reception of ancient history in modern culture. The teaching load will be six 3-cu courses over the three academic terms. The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Instructor depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications. STM is committed to high-quality teaching and research. Successful candidates will be expected to make significant contributions to teaching; to contribute to one or more of STM’s inter-disciplinary programs (Catholic Studies; Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good; Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Jewish and Christian Origins; Ukrainian Studies) according to his/her interest or requirements of the position; and, to forge productive links with the corresponding University of Saskatchewan Department of History. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching. In addition, full-time faculty duties may include scholarly work and research, service on academic committees/other administrative duties, and/or extension work and community service, as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in the discipline is preferred. Master’s degree and appropriate experience may be considered.
  • Cover letter describing teaching and research strengths.
  • Current curriculum vitae with all stated contact information current.
  • Written response to the STM Mission Statement.
  • Copies of transcripts of qualifying degree.
  • Teaching dossier, including teaching philosophy, copies of teaching evaluations (both by students and peers; if the applicant has previously taught courses for which he/she is applying, teaching evaluations from all courses taught should be made available), sample syllabi, and other materials as appropriate.
  • Sample of academic writing.
  • At least two letters of reference (sent directly to the Department Head).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and demonstrable success teaching courses in the history and literature of the ancient Mediterranean world.
  • Ability to teach Latin language courses.
  • A statement that thoughtfully reflects on student feedback and demonstrates a commitment to pedagogical growth.
