About The Position

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard ensures the safety of patrons at an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. The role involves monitoring patrons, providing emergency care until emergency medical services arrive, maintaining a professional manner and high standard of customer service, and helping keep the facility clean and safe. The Lifeguard also prepares and maintains activity reports and performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Less than a high school diploma.
• Must be at least 15 years old and obtain a work permit.
• Lifeguard certification.
• Certified in first aid and CPR.
• At least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
• Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations.
• Skill in applying lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
• Good communication skills.
• Successful completion of a written test and water test.
• Ability to be caring, understanding, and friendly toward patrons.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to read and interpret school policies and the handbook.
• Ability to apply common sense to written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility.
• Act immediately and appropriately to protect patrons in an emergency.
• Provide emergency care and treatment as required until emergency medical services arrive.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude and provide a high standard of customer service.
• Perform maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
• Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
